With the NRA convention in town, the Indianapolis Star planned a feature story about the trend of more women carrying guns and contacted the IU newsroom for help finding an academic source. Paul Helmke, professor of practice at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs and former president of the Brady Campaign, countered the argument that carrying a gun makes a person safer. “Those who carry are more likely to be injured than those who don’t,” he said.
