IU News and Media directed a reporter to Suzanne Eckes, associate professor in the Indiana University School of Education, for help with a story about religious schools that teach creationism while receiving support from taxpayer-funded school vouchers. “We can’t teach (creationism) in a science class at a public school or a charter school,” Eckes told the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette. “But now we’re giving money to voucher schools who are doing that? Is that how we envisioned vouchers to work?” Eckes, who writes and teaches about education law and policy, also provided an overview of court decisions on teaching creationism.
