Gene transfer gone wild reveals driving force behind mitochondrial ‘sex’

Research led by Indiana University’s Department of Biology made news around the world after the team revealed new information about the evolution and origin of flowering plants, including description of the largest example of foreign gene acquisition by any living organism, in this case the ancient flowering plant Amborella.
